No, All Of Us Are NOT Corrupt!!!
‘All Pakistanis are born cheaters, Honesty is a word that is missing from a Pakistani dictionary, All Pakistanis are CORRUPT!’
Hearing such ridiculous remarks against a person’s beloved nation would hurt anyone’s feelings, and I am not any different. And this is the reason why a fifteen year-old kid tried to manage to take some time off facebook, play-station, TV, Sports, Skool (No, am not a nerd! :P), etc. to write an article.
First of all, the cause of corruption is ‘greed’, and greed is something that is not related to a particular place, or region or a country, it’s in the hearts of most people, if not everyone, in this world. We all have the greed to become more powerful, richer, more respected, etc. We are all prone to the disease of greediness; it doesn’t matter whether you are Bill Gates or an orphan living in some dirty-slum!
A middle-class person wants to develop into a millionaire, while the millionaire wants to become a billionaire, and the billionaire aims to be a trillionaire. Being rich just does NOT eliminate the greediness for money in a person’s heart, or then the likes of Bill Gates wouldn’t even need to work anymore, neither would Steve jobs have to try so hard to sell his iPhones. Everyone in this universe wants to get more and more money, such is lyf. It’s nothing more than a bitter-truth!
And NO! Cricketers are NOT Gods, they are merely humans, and just like us, they even have desires and can be lured by lots of money. Do you really think that it is very easy for a young cricketer to reject an offer of $200,000 for just bowling ONE no-ball in a match??? It certainly ain’t easy, and just like us, some of them fall into the trap. Making lots of money in a very short time can tempt anyone, even the most honest people in this world, especially when there is a very low chance of you getting caught. After all, NOTW sting operations aren’t conducted everyday
(BTW, I still do NOT believe in their reports. It is nothing more than a publicity stunt I believe.)
Alright, many (including those who left their countries just to earn more money overseas) would say “But I wouldn’t sell my country for some money.” Fair point, though I believe that match-fixing is NOT only related to money nowadays. It’s gone beyond money, it’s now something related to ‘Life & Death.’ And the recent event of Zulqarnain Haider is a great example, as well as the incident that Geoff Lawson recently narrated where he talked about how a selector received death-threats for his sister if he didn’t select a player in the team. The under-world bookies of the world have really made life extremely difficult for even the most honest cricketers with their death threats, and trust me, no one wants to deal with those under-world dons, let alone ignore their threats. Believe me, it doesn’t matter whether you are honest or dishonest, whether you are an Indian or a Pakistani, you are bound to cross any limit for the sake of your and your own family’s life. Neither is it that only the Pakistani cricketers are lured to commit this awful crime by the under-world bookies, it doesn’t matter to them which country you belong to. All they want is more and more money in the least amount of time which is possible by dealing with better teams, and they certainly would NOT hesitate for even a second if you are an Aussie or English, after all, they are dons and nothing fears them. So let’s get out of our nationality shells, dismantle the racism in our hearts, and STOP blaming only a particular country. It is just that many are lucky enough and never get away with it, while some others get caught.
And NO, I have NOT been defending anyone who commits the nastiest crime in the beautiful game of cricket throughout my article, but I just want people to erase the biasness they have against particular nations and try to find a solution. I believe, it’s about time that the ACSU and the ICC and the Cricket boards of all Countries wake-up and act like a parent of the cricketers by insuring that they stay away from such bad guys, and it doesn’t matter whether that means breaching the privacy of some cricketers since the cricketers, being like normal humans, are bound to fall into such traps if there is no-one keeping an eye on them like a parent. The integrity of this ‘Great Game’ has lately been under the scanner and it’s about time the incompetent ACSU starts doing something apart from only talking. Time is running out, Please SAVE this beautiful game!!!
Boom Boom Afridi :-)
